City Living

We've been having a minor debate at work of the merits of city life vs. rural life. For me, the ability to walk to do almost all of my shopping, the ability to not have to drive everywhere (especially if my job somehow became more public transit accessible), and the fact that I don't have to drive 20 minutes to get a good burger are all reasons I love living in the city.

And, I know what rural living is like. I grew up in small town, in the woods, with farms, fishing, hunting, and the like. I did it for 22 years and, while I love my home town, I'm not sure I could go back to the distance and, quite frankly, the quiet, of living in a small town.

(I realize I've left out suburban living, which is the worst of both worlds.)

These past two weeks have almost made me change my mind. A couple of massive snowstorms and too many college kids parking on my street, have lead to me having to park a ways away a few nights, and then today, lead to me having to run out and move my car because a fire engine could not get past (due to some idiot parking in an unshoveled spot across the street from me).

Granted, Somerville isn't Southie. People aren't quite as anal about marking their parking spots and bitching you out if you park in their spot, but I'm pretty sick of leaving work at 6pm knowing that I won't be able to park anywhere near my house.

Point, rural living.
